NEW DATE!

ART OF AUDITIONING MASTERCLASS WITH UK'S LEADING CASTING DIRECTOR - JO HAWES

Sunday 10th October 2021 – Dance City, Newcastle upon Tyne

An amazing opportunity to work with the UK’s leading children’s casting director Jo Hawes who has worked on over 150 large-scale West End and touring shows including Oliver!, Mary Poppins, Les Miserables, The Secret Diary Of Adrian Mole and The Lion King.

The 1.5 hr audition Masterclass is specifically designed to empower young performers and to help them understand what creative teams are looking for, how to behave and how to use their nerves in the audition room. The masterclass will include a wealth of other practical information on effective audition techniques.

"I noticed that many children had no idea how to audition because this particular skill is not taught to them. So I started giving classes in November 2010 and have been invited all over the UK and Ireland. I have also taught in Hong king and Dubai." says Jo. "The classes are independent of any productions – indeed attendance or non - attendance will not change who I see when casting a show. I am always very inclusive providing children fit the basic criteria but I have seen many children unsuccessful in the audition process because they have not shown their considerable talents to a panel of directors who only have a very short time in which to make a decision."

Jo says that she is not intending to teach children how to sing, dance or act – they know that already – but she does want to help them develop good audition technique.
